Can you dual boot XP & Windows 2000 The reason I ask this is that I want to run 98 7 2000 and then upgrade the 98 to XP to avoid having to get XP Proffessional rather than XP Pro. What a hassle --- XP Home Edition --- this machine [a laptop] must have caught a virus so bad that System Restore would not work despite repeated attempts. Sounds as though you're not really In the latter case all you can do is keep going back to earlier restore points, and that has worked for me sometimes.

I am pretty sure that your laptop came with a restore cd whic you can use but back up your data. When you went through the Upgrade process from HM to XP Pro some help i even thought about uninstalling xppro and going back to xphome but the option is not there and the laptop came with xphome already installed

You may have outdated software or hardware to update or replace. Look into before doing it...Its your machine....make up your own mind.

Regarding compatibility: I have XP Pro at work and XP Home at home. Both are clean installs and I have never, ever had a problem. Going back to the original post - the .NET Common Language Runtime is supported on everything from Windows 98 upwards so you don't *need* to go to a NT-based OS to develop with .NET.

I have tried to install it 3 times tonight (XP-Home-SP2). I have rebooted as requested three times tonight and all it has succeeded in doing is wiping some other icons (such as the desktop icon) from the tray and wasting at least 2 hours of my valuable time. Note that the current version of Windows for home use is Windows XP Home Edition, if I'm not mistaken. Users of other versions of Windows are strongly encouraged to I'm going back to text... :-) Which might be the most appropriate solution anyway, for certain tasks. Q. The success of Windows is absolute.

you are information is not backed up, it's likely that short of going to a file recovery service, your information is gone. How you resolve it depends upon which version of XP you are running. XP-Home Unfortunately, XP Home using NTFS is essentially hard wired for "Simple File Sharing" at system level.

I use one big file (13MB QDF) with data going back to 1997. Running Quicken 2002 Deluxe, XP Home,P4 1 gig RAM.
